
About the Sahtu Renewable Resources Board
The Sahtu Dene & Metis Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement was signed in 1993. The Agreement established the Sahtu Settlement Area, which includes approximately 283,000 square km of land and the communities of Colville Lake, Deline, Fort Good Hope, Norman Wells, and Tulita.The Sahtu Renewable Resources Board (SRRB) was established through the Land Claim Agreement (13.8) and the Sahtu Dene and Metis Land Claim Settlement Act (June 24, 1994). The SRRB is the main instrument of wildlife and forestry management in the Sahtu Settlement Area.
This organization is deemed a regional co-management board, thereby representing beneficiaries as well as non-beneficiaries and the non-aboriginal population of the Sahtu Settlement Area. The SRRB, with equal representation from communities and territorial/federal government agencies, is dedicated to protecting, conserving, and managing all renewable resources in the Sahtu
Mission Statement
To assist communities with the management of wildlife and habitat for the benefit of the people of the Sahtu Settlement Area.
It is the responsibility of the SRRB and all other affected parties to unite to protect, conserve, and manage, in a cooperative spirit, all renewable resources within the Sahtu Settlement Area in a sustainable manner to meet or exceed the needs of the public today and in the future for generations to come.
