Scholarships

 

 

Background

The Board has established a scholarship/bursary program for students pursuing post-secondary education in a field related to the SRRB's mandate. This page summarizes the requirements for the scholarship. More information is available from the Board Office in Tulita, NT.

Eligibility

The following criteria will be used for selecting recipients of the SRRB Scholarship/Bursary:

  • Pursuing a college diploma or university degree or minimun of two-year certificate program in renewable resources or related field (biology, forestry, or environmental science)
  • Sahtu Dene or Metis enrolled under the land claim or a NWT resident who has completed the last two-years of their high school education in the Sahtu Settlement Area
  • Have a 70% (B-average) or higher in the last year of full-time study
  • Minimum two-year program of study
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Must be a full-time student during tenure of the scholarship
  • Must maintain a full course load during the tenure of the scholarship
  • Evidence of student's involvement in the community
  • Statement of future goals

Value

The value of the scholarship depends on which year of post-secondary study the student will be in while holding the scholarship.

  • First Year $2000
  • Second Year $2500
  • Third & Fourth Year $3500
  • Graduate (MSc./PhD.) $5000

All scholarships will be paid in two installments. After proof of enrollment is received by the Board, the first installment will be paid during the student's first semester. A second installment will be paid in the second semester after proof of continued enrollment is received.RenewalsScholarships are awarded for one year at a time, but can be renewed for subsequent years of study if the student meets the following requirements each year:

  • Maintains a 70% (B-average with no failures)
  • Maintains a full course load
  • Continues in a field of study related to renewable resources
  • Shows continued financial need
  • Students will not be supported beyond the normal length of their program of study (i.e., beyond the second year of a diploma program or the third or fourth year of a university degree program). Graduate students may receive support for up to two years in a Master's program and three years in a PhD program.

 

Application Forms

Applicants must ensure that all applications are complete, including letters of reference and transcripts or report cards. If final marks are not available, interim marks may be submitted and students should arrange to have their final marks sent directly to the Board as soon as they become available.Download your application today!
