Cory grew up in North Bay, Ontario, where a childhood of paddling and wandering the backcountry fostered a deep love for land, water and the wildlife that live between. He holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Ottawa and a Master of Environmental and Life Sciences from Trent University, during which he studied caribou movement and connectivity across western Canada - with a particular focus on the Northern Mountain caribou in the Sahtú.
During his time as a wildlife biologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, Cory collaborated closely with the SRRB on the Nı́o Nę P’ęnę́: Trails of the Mountain Caribou project, assisting in the design and implementation of a community-led, non-invasive caribou monitoring and research program in the Mackenzie Mountains. His work reflects a strong scientific background, paired with a commitment to conducting wildlife research in a “good way” - embracing multiple ways of knowing, supporting community-led initiatives, and integrating science and Indigenous knowledge side by side so that research is both culturally and scientifically relevant.
Cory brings to the team both a grounding in rigorous ecological study and a genuine respect for land-based knowledge and partnerships, striving to support wildlife, communities and landscapes together.
